Johnston Town Center got a new synthetic ice rink in 2021, which is located over the splash pad. I love that they offer skate rentals ($5/pair) because rentals are hard to find in the Des Moines metro area, however my kids and I found the synthetic surface very difficult to skate on.
If you have your own skates, I recommend skating at Johnston Commons instead. It's just down the road, next to the library.
