It was a great day to visit the Bob Shetler Recreation Area and walk along the Des Moines River. We saw several bald eagles during our walk. They're attracted to the area because the open waters below the dam create feeding opportunities for bald eagles.
We parked near the picnic area, where there were quite a few other eagle watchers. The gate to the picnic area is still locked for the winter, but it's just a short walk to the playground from the parking area that's open. The restrooms are still locked as well.
