Wallace State Park is conveniently located just minutes from I-35, so we stopped for a short hike while traveling between Des Moines and Kansas City today. We chose the Old Quarry Trail because we only had an hour of daylight left and 1.25 miles was the perfect length. The trail is blazed in green, which made it very easy to follow. The

The trailhead was a little tricky to find. As you drive along the lake, just before it ends, look for an area to pull off to the right which has several places to park (identified by the blue dot below). There are two picnic tables at the trailhead parking area.
