Raccoon River Park has a 3.2 mile trail that loops around Blue Heron Lake. About one mile of the trail is paved and the remainder is crushed rock. It's a very popular trail and we saw many people during our walk today, but the trail is wide and it never felt crowded.
Approximately half the trail is shaded, but unfortunately nearly all the benches along the trail are in full sun. There are modern restrooms near the playground and boathouse, along with three portable restrooms along the trail. The new pedestrian bridge which connects to Walnut Woods State Park is still under construction but nearly completed.
