We really enjoyed our first visit to Wilson's Orchard & Farm today. We started with the hour-long guided tractor tour which includes apple picking and stopping to walk among the beautiful flowers.
Then we had delicious pizza and cider flights at their Ciderhouse Restaurant. Our last stop was the Farm Market where I bought my favorite cider flavor (peach) and my son bought frozen apple cider donuts, which he has already enjoyed at home tonight.
Wilson's Orchard has been in Iowa City for 40 years, but just opened in the Des Moines area this year. They have a great location in Cumming, just off I-35. It's easy to find, with plenty of parking available. When you arrive, you'll see the Ciderhouse Restaurant and Farm Market which share a building. There are restrooms in the back of the building connected to both sides.
For the You-Pick Orchard Experience, head to the right of the building and follow the trail until you reach a stand where you'll pay and board the tractor. Tickets will soon include a kids play area and corn maze. They said those areas might be ready as soon as next weekend.
The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. It was busy when we had lunch around noon today and reservations are recommended. There are two kid menu items - chicken tenders and grilled cheese. The cider flights are a great way to sample their wide variety of ciders.
If you're just looking for a snack while visiting, the Farm Market has a cafe menu. There's no indoor seating, but there are some picnic tables in the back.
