Hiking at Iowa Arboretum - Madrid, Iowa

The new Treehouse Village area at the Iowa Arboretum has a great hiking for kids.  The paved trail that loops around the new playground is 1/3 mile long and there are two natural play areas along the trail - a fort building area and a forest floor creation station.

The wooded trails include the Herrick Memorial Trail which is 1/4 mile and has a 133 steps leading down to the wooded stream valley.  The Overlook Trail which is a 1/2 mile, but flat and very easy for kids to hike, along with the Walnut Trail which is a 3/4 mile loop.

There is also a 3/4 mile prairie trail loop that looked great, but it was hot today so we stuck to the wooded trails.  Today was our second visit to the new Treehouse Village and it's a new favorite for us.  Reciprocal admission with our Reiman Gardens membership definitely helps.
