Hiking at McFarland Park - Ames, Iowa

It was a beautiful spring day for a hike at McFarland Park in Ames this morning.  The Touch-a-Life Trail is a 1.5 mile hard-surfaced trail that loops around the 6.5 acre lake, but there are also woodland trails for a total of 5.5 miles of trails in the park.

There are several portable toilets along the trails and modern restrooms in the Conservation Center, which is open weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.  The next time we visit, we plan to bring hammocks to enjoy the hammock hangout area.

For photos of the nature playscape at the park, please check out my post from our May 2021 visit.  We ended our hike at the playscape today and the area looks very similar to the photos from four years ago.
